VoIP lines are a relatively new phenomenon which is being utilised by people for their home, their business and even their mobile. VoIP phone systems can be used in place of the more common ISDN lines that we’ve been utilising for generations. But why would you want to switch from ISDN to VoIP?
There are several key reasons and advantages to using a VoIP system, especially for those running a business. The single biggest advantage however is the reduced cost, which has caused them to be extremely popular all over the country (both home and business). The line rental price when using a VoIP phone is much, much cheaper than standard ISDN lines, (up to 60%) plus the call cost per minute is also greatly reduced.
There are also no charges for adding extra lines (or removing them), making the system very appealing to business users.
There are some distinct advantages for businesses too, regardless of the size of the company. The system will allow you to have unified communications throughout the company, you can also give them impression of being a much bigger company. Rather than being fixed to a specific area code for your group of numbers, you’ll be allowed to add as many numbers as you like using any area code, meaning you can present the illusion of having offices in numerous different locations. The dialling codes are not restricted to the United Kingdom either, as you can select dialling codes from international locations (if you require).
The final major advantage to utilsing a VoIP phone system is that you can transfer or change numbers extremely easily. Let’s say your changing over from ISDN to VoIP, keeping your old number is no problem, meaning you don’t have to worry about missing important business calls (or those thousands of business cards you gave out with the old number). Once you’ve made the switch over to the VoIP system, you’ll be able to set your number to whichever line you want, as there’s no physical connection between the number and the phone line, as with ISDN systems. It also makes it far easier to move office should you ever need to, as you won’t have to change any of your business numbers.
